How We Work With You
WHY WE GET BETTER RESULTS BY NOT BENCHMARKING
A recent Bain Management Tools & Trends Survey found that benchmarking is the third most often used management tool world-wide. Yet, the same survey, which also asked companies to rate their satisfaction with these management tools, rated benchmarking below average. The study concludes that benchmarking “may need substantial improvement”.
A major problem with benchmarking is that what you copy may not be the actual reason for the other companies’ success. What you are trying to copy may be part of the reason an approach works for some companies, but it isn’t the reason for their success. And, as everyone should know, each company’s situation is different, and they need to find solutions that work for their unique market, objectives, and competencies. What may work for someone else, may not work for you. Maybe that is a major reason why 75% of change initiatives fail.
Our data analysis methods are grounded in exclusive, scientifically-validated techniques that ensure we generate unique, accurate insights that are actionable.
Our Approach
Our approach is based on our experience and research that indicates every organization is different. Every organization has different DNA. Our DnA® Assessment reveals what works for you.
By showing you how the different aspects of your operating culture interact with each other and impact your strategy execution, we provide tailored insights that provide sustained success.
For example, for five recent clients, our methodology generated 15 completely different options for change. None were the same for any of the companies.
They were based on each company’s unique dynamics as revealed by the DnA® Assessment. Of course, there will be cases when some, not all, of the options will be similar. But, unlike other consultancies that base all of their recommendations on what works for others, we provide options based on what your data shows will work for you, and encourage you to consider which of those options are best for your circumstances. In fact, our analysis often shows that what would lead to a successful outcome in one company may lead to problems in another.
For example, for one recent client, call them Company A, the DnA® Assessment data showed that for their operating culture, if people started to become more experimental in their approach to getting work done, it would most likely lead to a negative impact on acquiring new customers. While benchmarking data might show the best way to acquire more customers is to become more innovative and let people experiment, that advice would be a disaster for Company A. It would lead to failure.
Our data provides you with a customized route to success as seen below:
While the benchmarking route may be what works for some others with different operating cultures, our process enables us to customize what will work for your organization. Our route may take a little longer, but it will help you avoid a “high accident area”.
Remember, the vast majority of change initiatives fail. Our process has a 25-year track record of proven success.
